China is the world's largest producer of ballpoint pens, but in the past, the manufacturing of ballpoint pens in China was restricted by people. The pen tip of a ballpoint pen is composed of a ball and a ball socket. The ball balls produced in China not only meet domestic demand, but also are exported in large quantities to foreign countries. The pen head processing machine tool and pen tip steel used to manufacture the ball socket rely on imports from abroad. In order to solve the bottleneck problem of ballpoint pens, China has developed domestically produced pen head processing machines and pen tip steel.

In terms of pen head machining machines, due to the high difficulty in machining the ball socket of the ballpoint pen tip, there is a high technical threshold for pen head machining machines. A ball socket with a diameter of one or two millimeters, although very small in size, has a very complex internal structure, presenting a circular stepped shape, with multiple small ink guide grooves evenly distributed inside. The machining accuracy of the ball seat body is extremely high, and the machining accuracy of the groove needs to reach 1 micrometer. The size accuracy of the bowl mouth where the ball balls are placed at the top of the ball seat body is required to be 2 micrometers, and the surface roughness also needs to reach 0.4 micrometers. In addition, the manufacturing of the ball socket requires more than ten processing steps, and high-speed multi-station pen head machining machines can meet the requirements of efficient processing of the ball socket.
